Talawakelle
Talawakelle is a town in nuwara eliya District in the central province, Sri Lanka, governed by an Urban Council. It is the center of dimbula tea planting district, the largest tea growing area in Sri Lanka. It is situated on A7 Colombo-Nuwara Eliya highway. The altitude of Talawakelle is 1,198 metres (3,930 ft). Talawakelle railway station is one of the major stops of Udarata (Sinhala "Hill Country") or Main railway line. The town is administrated by Talawakelle-Lindula urban council.
On the A7 highway, en route to Nuwara Eliya, the Mlesna Tea Castle St. Claire stands proudly amidst the hills and tea estates. As suggested by its name, The Mlesna Tea Castle is huge, housing the largest teashop in the world. As well as a wide array of aromatic teas, the Tea Castle has a bright, quick service café featuring dishes using tea either as flavouring or a garnish. There is also a play area for children.
A walk through a plantation will get you closer to devon falls. The waterfall was named after the British coffee planter, Mr. Devon, whose plantations are nearby the fall. The Devon waterfalls is one of the most beautiful cascades of Sri Lanka, located close to Talawakelle town.You can get a view of the waterfall while staying on the main road of Talawakelle to hatton. But a closer view will be quite worth the visit. For that, you would have to stop at the 20th-milepost and walk about 1 km through the lush greenly tea plantations to reach the waterfall. Head to the viewpoint located in front of the Mlesna Tea Castle, and take a break for a nice cup of tea while you admire the views of the falls. Enjoy the intact natural scenery, then get close to the waterfall for some incredible photos. If you could reach the top of the cascade, the view to the bottom of the fall will be stunning. Do not try to swim or bathe near the fall as it might be dangerous.No trip to Sri Lanka will be successful and completed without a journey to the hill country of Nuwara Eliya. Nuwara Eliya is considered a major tourist attraction yet it has a cluster of sites to be explored. Among them, waterfalls are significant… Close to Devon falls, you will find St. Clair’s waterfall.
St Clair’s is one of the widest waterfalls in Sri Lanka and is called the “Little Niagara of Sri Lanka”. It is a strikingly beautiful waterfall, which is approximately 80 meters in height and 50 meters in width. This waterfall runs over a rock ridge, splits into three cascades, and drops into a pool. These beautiful falls are situated close to the town of Talawakele on the hatton-Talawakele Highway in the nuwara eliya district. The falls are located along the Kotmale River, running through an enchanting green valley. The waterfalls consist of two falls called “Maha Ella” and “Kuda Ella”. This majestic waterfall falls down between magnificent green hills in the midst of tea plantations in Sri Lanka’s Hill Country and it got the name after the Saint Clair Tea Estate which it runs through. St Clair’s Falls is the 20th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka.
